Youths are more accepting of porn, according to a new study of college students.

Young men are much more likely to view porn, with 86 per cent of those polled saying that they had watched it in the past year, while one in five said that they viewed such material every day or nearly every day.

Nearly half of the young women polled said that viewing adult movies was fine, while 31 per cent said that they had watched or viewed porn, researchers at Brigham Young University told USA Today.

Their opinions differed significantly with their parents, with only 37 per cent of fathers and 20 per cent of mothers saying that it was acceptable to watch X-rated films.

"We're in an age of pocket porn," the study author Jason Carroll told the paper.

Jeffrey Arnett, the editor of the Journal of Adolescent Research, told the paper that this difference might be attributed to the fact that porn was so readily available on the internet now, compared with the 1980s when young adults had to purchase it over the counter.
