Although regular sex can improve people's overall health, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing, according to an expert.

Forbes has reported that Dr J Francois Eid, a urologist with Weill Medical College of Cornell University and New York Presbyterian Hospital, said prolonged or rough sex can see damage to the penis.

Dr Eid noted that he has seen men who use drugs that help them maintain erections such as Viagra damage their erectile tissue.

"I see it in pro football players. They use Viagra because they're so sexually active. What they demand of their body is unreasonable…And they have sex in [a] similar fashion," he told the news provider.

Dr Eid also highlighted that men who have difficultly keeping their erections should go to their doctors because it could be a sign that something more serious is wrong, such as an increase in cholesterol levels, hypertension or diabetes.

This follows news that all is not well in the bedroom for Taiwanese women, half of whom say they fake orgasms so as not to hurt their partners' feelings.
