A teenager has been stabbed to death in an incident involving a group of youths in north London.

The killing is the latest in a string of recent attacks in the capital where young people have lost their lives.

Police were called to the junction of Tollington Way and Axminster Road in Islington at 20:30 BST last night following reports of a disturbance.

The victim of the stabbing, who has not been named, was treated by paramedics but pronounced dead at the scene.

A Metropolitan police spokeswoman said officers were keeping an open mind about the motive for the attack on the youth, described as being white and in his mid-teens.

His next of kin were being informed of his death, she added.

The killing comes after 16-year-old Ben Hitchcock from Penge, south London, was stabbed to death late on Saturday night in a fight involving up to 40 youths.

Police arrested 14 teenagers in connection with the incident in Southend Road, Beckenham, before subsequently releasing them on bail pending further inquiries.

In an earlier attack a 17-year-old girl died in hospital after being shot in a north London bar during the early hours of Saturday morning.

Three people were arrested and later released on bail over the shooting of Annaka Keniesha Pinto in the Swan Bar in Philip Lane, Tottenham.
