An 18-year-old south London woman has appeared in court today charged with the murder of an A-Level student.

Chelsea Bennett, from London Road, Croydon, was remanded in custody at Croydon magistrates charged with the murder of Sian Simpson, 18, in Mann Close, Croydon, on Tuesday evening.

Ms Bennett will appear at the Old Bailey on September 27th.

Ms Simpson was found by police suffering from a single stab wound at the south London address shortly before 20:00 BST on Tuesday night.

She was taken to nearby Mayday hospital by London ambulance staff but was pronounced dead at 20:43 GMT.

Media reports have suggested the incident may have stemmed from a disagreement over a love rival with the victim acting as peacemaker.

Another 18-year-old woman has been released on bail to return to a south London police station on July 4th pending further inquiries.

Scotland Yard have confirmed that they are not treating the incident as gang-related.
