Students in Singapore are being given the chance to gain extra credits in 'love and sexuality' studies.

The classes are being taught by trainers from the government's Social Development Unit, a state match-making agency founded in 1984, in an attempt to boost the city-state's birth rate, reports the Telegraph.

Topics of study include holding hands, "love song analysis" and watching romantic films, and so far, at least one student has found it useful.

Mechanical engineering student, Isabel Seet, told the local Straits Times newspaper: "My teacher said if a guy looks into my eyes for more than five seconds, it could mean that he is attracted to me and I stand a chance.

"It's very interesting, and if I have a boyfriend in future, I'll know how to cope with any problems we may have."

However, fellow student, Kamal Prakash is not planning on applying his new skills anytime soon.

"I think most people who take the course would find it easier to get a girlfriend. But I'm not really looking for a girlfriend now as I want to concentrate on my studies," he said.
