A sexpert has advised couples to express their sexual needs and not be embarrassed, awkward or shy about discussing their bedroom behaviour.

Problems with relationships can occur when people feel like they are unable to express their sexual needs and desires, says Mary Clegg, co-founder of the British Association for Sexual and Relationship Therapy.

"I think it's common that somebody wants to do something different or experimental, change what happens in their sexual repertoire, but feels unable to ask for it," she states.

"You need to look at the relationship and find out why they can't ask."

Going on to state the obvious, Mary adds that men are not mind readers and need to ask their partner what she does, and doesn't, like.

However, most couples practise what they already know "with regular monotony".

Unfortunately, sticking to the old adage of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" could be causing many couples problems – only 44 per cent of people are fully satisfied with their sex lives according to a Durex study.
