Ryanair's schoolgirl is too 'sexually provocative'
Published: 30/01/2008

Ryanair

A new advertising campaign from budget airline Ryanair featuring a school girl has been slammed by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for being too "sexually provocative".

The organisation has described the airline, which is featuring a model in school girl-type clothes for its new adverts, as "irresponsible", as it linked teenage girls with sexually charged behaviour.

Following 13 complaints and an investigation, ASA have now asked Ryanair to withdraw the poster.

However, Ryanair's head of communications for the airline Peter Sherrard said that the company refused to pull the pictures.

He added that the model, who was sporting a bare midriff, short skirt, tie, shirt and knee-high socks while standing in a classroom, was simply wearing clothes currently fashionable among young women, reports the BBC.

"This bunch of unelected self-appointed dimwits are clearly incapable of fairly and impartially ruling on advertising," he added.
