Marathon sex is not the route to a better sex life, according to a new survey, with most preferring a quick session in the bedroom.

The research found that sex therapists think three to 13 minutes is satisfactory for sex, not including foreplay or cuddling, reports Canada.com.

Many people are experiencing unsatisfactory sex lives in the pursuit of longer, bigger or better sex, when actually 14 to 30 minutes is rated as "too long", by members of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research.

Dr Eric Cordy, a researcher who led the study, told the website: "Even 45 minutes is unrealistic, for both men and women. So everyone can just relax. The sex they're having is probably adequate."

He added that prolonged erections for men are not healthy, in addition to soreness which may be experienced by the lady.

Sexperts recently advised that a couple being more emotionally close will result in better orgasms for both parties.
