Police in Bangkok are making an extra-special effort this evening (February 14th) to stop under-age teenagers having sex.

Tai law puts the age limit at 18, however a recent study by Bangkok's Assumption University found that 27 per cent of the 2,400 teenagers surveyed were planning on breaking the law.

Accordingly, police will be patrolling short stay motels to check on the guest's ages and ensuring that the city's parks are brightly lit.

Bangkok police spokesman Suporn Pansuea said: "We will send patrols to check out public parks, restaurants and shopping malls, which are the starting points for potential sexual activities that will be done at home or motels."

"Student inspectors" from the Education Ministry will also be on the lookout over the evening.

Sex education in schools was recently voted as poor, very poor or average by over half of the 20,000 young people involved in a poll by the Youth Parliament.
