GMTV has come under fire for sexing up a feature on tights by a TV campaign group.

The short section included dancers wearing corsets and tights while suspended on dance poles.

Presented by veteran presenter Lorraine Kelly, the three-minute clip was designed to show viewers how to "glam up with this season's tights", but according to Mediawatch UK, the dancers were "completely unnecessary".

"As it was an item about tights, it seems the pole dancing was completely unnecessary," John Beyer from the organisation told the Daily Mail.

"It is absolutely inappropriate for pole dancing to be promoted in a show of that kind at that time of day when children could be watching.

"I wish ITV would concentrate on producing more wholesome television."

However, a GMTV spokeswoman responded to the group's comments, saying: "Pole dancing is the latest keep fit craze and is great for upper body strength and toning so we thought it would be a fun way to illustrate these tights."
