Eddie Murphy has taken a swipe at Spice Girl Melanie Brown and got engaged to his girlfriend Tracey Edmonds.

News that Eddie was the father of Mel's baby Angel Iris had "no impact" on the couple's relationship - well, that's what Edmonds told the press - and it looks like the couple are keen to make sure everyone (anyone in particular?) knows it.

The news was confirmed to People magazine that the couple, who have been dating since last autumn, made the commitment last week.

"Tracey and Eddie were engaged last Wednesday," Edmonds's personal assistant told the publication.

"Tracey and Eddie are both very much in love, and are excited about spending the rest of their lives together."

Mel has reportedly hired top celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred to fight her case in court for child welfare payments.

A source told the Daily Mail, "She (Brown) is expected to lobby Murphy for child support commensurate with his big income. If I were Murphy I would be nervous."
