Cheryl Cole has soared in popularity among men since the revelations that her husband had cheated on her, according to a new poll.

FHM has revealed that the Girls Aloud star has rocketed up into the top five stakes of the magazine's Sexiest Women in the World 2008 list, which is to be announced on April 24th.

"Ashley Cole should be even more worried right now," said FHM executive editor Chris Bell.

"Not only has he managed to score an own goal with one of the world's hottest women, but FHM's readers in their thousands have jumped chivalrously to Cheryl's defence - voting her better than ever.

"If she chooses to dump him, she has an army of new men to choose from."

Other contenders for the accolade include new Bond girl Olga Kurylenko, Jessica Alba and Heroes actress Hayden Panettiere.

Girls Aloud have been nominated for best British group at this year's Brit Awards.
