Married men have lower testosterone levels

Married men have lower testosterone levels

A lot of people, men and women alike, dream of getting married (even though they might not admit it!).

The big day, the honeymoon and marital bliss that goes on and on (if you're lucky).

However, a new study suggests that some bizarre hormonal things can change for men when this does happen - and it's all because they no longer need to search for a mate.

Researchers from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas have discovered that the levels of the male sex hormone testosterone, which effects libido, lower after a guy gets married.

Scientists analysed men in the Ariaal tribe who live in a northern part of Kenya who remain 'warriors' and single until they turn 30, when they generally tend to marry at least one woman.

"Testosterone levels are lower among married men probably because they are investing less in mating effort," researcher Peter Gray, who led the research, told New Scientist magazine.
