Thousands of loved-up Latin Americans have enjoyed the continent's biggest erotica trade show this month, it has emerged.

Around 20,000 Brazilians are thought to have popped into the nine-day Erotika Fair in Sao Paulo, which is believed to have grown in popularity because of booming interest from the female half of the population.

"Ten years ago, women represented just five per cent of sex shop customers. Now they're 70 to 80 per cent," Evaido Shiroma, a sex toy and fetish clothing salesman, explained to Agence France-Presse.

He continued: "Brazilian women have become much more open about sex because of the way it is portrayed in the media, including in the soap operas, which have many sensual scenes."

Strippers and TV stars strutted their stuff at the event, intended to spice up the sex lives of attendees via a range of Brazil-made massage oils, lubes and naughty nurse outfits on sale.

Other novelties, including vibrators and an array of furry handcuffs, were also available for purchase at the fair.
