America Ferrera may have become famous as a frumpy secretary with a vast selection of tank-tops, but the 23-year-old actress is certainly showing she's not so dowdy in real life.

The Ugly Betty star, who plays a warm-hearted assistant in a bitchy fashion magazine house, has posed for some saucy new pictures for Marie Claire in which she is every inch as glamorous as her co-stars.

America, who also starred in the 2002 coming of age film Real Women Have Curves, revealed that she sometimes quite likes the "anonymity" her Ugly Betty persona gives her.

According to WENN, she told Star magazine: "People give me looks and think, 'Do I know you from high school?'. They don't know where to place me, but they recognise me.

"It's nice. I love the anonymity that I get when I am not wearing braces."
