He may carry your bag, buy you flowers and insist on paying the bill - but are you really that bothered?

New research has suggested that women don't really care whether their man is an angel. In fact, we apparently don't mind if he is a bad boy, as long as he can flirt like hell.

Scientists at Bristol University conducted some tests on women using filmed images of 28 men speaking into a camera. Next to their faces they placed 'social' and anti-social' slogans, such as "I really enjoy helping old people" and "old people bore me".

The results showed that the anti-social statements made little difference to a bloke's attractiveness rating, and that it was all about his flirty facial expressions.

"Antisocial men can make up a lot of ground just by being flirtatious," said Dr Andy Clark, a psychologist at Bristol University.

"I don't think women like bastards. I think antisocial men who behave flirtatiously are either fooling women into thinking they are not so bad, or they're actually demonstrating that they are not so bad."
