Fans of sex toys and vibrators in Texas will be pleased to hear that, thanks to a federal court ruling, they are no longer banned.

The 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals has decided to overturn the state's law banning the sale of such products, deeming that it violated the US constitution's right to privacy guaranteed by the 14th Amendment.

It cited the US Supreme Court's 2003 ruling on Lawrence and Garner v Texas, which struck down bans on consensual sex between same-sex couples.

Despite a ban remaining in Alabama, resident and sex toy shop owner Sherri Williams said the ruling was encouraging.

Sherri, who has been fighting against Alabama's ban for a decade, told the Associated Press: "I think the courts are finally listening to the people.

"You have Sex and the City, Desperate Housewives and other shows promoting what society is doing. I think the courts have finally opened their eyes and looked around, which is a miracle in the south."
