An apparent "family source" close to Eddie Murphy has claimed that the US actor was stunned when Spice Girl Mel B announced she was pregnant with his child as the pair only "slept together just three times".

According to the News of the World's source, the couple did not have a "passionate relationship", and sex only a few times, and therefore Eddie was "certain it couldn't be his".

"That's why he was stunned when she announced she was pregnant after they split. He truly did not believe it was his child. As they only had sex a few times, and she'd promised she had a contraceptive coil fitted, Eddie was certain it couldn't be his."

The source added that "things got so ugly between them Eddie even had his lawyer send her lawyer a letter accusing her of extortion - he thinks she's been rubbishing his name in order to make him cave in to her outlandish financial demands."

Mel, also know as Scary Spice, gave birth to now nine-month-old Angel on April 3rd.
