Dating and relationships can be a right old headache. Don't get us wrong, they can also be fun and bring some very pleasurable results (!), but actually meeting the man if your dreams can be a nightmare to start with - especially the right one.

Most of us might hope to 'bump into' their perfect sauce-pot in a bar - but according to one relationship and advice expert, this is a bad plan.

"You're making snap judgments. I call it the '30-second' once-over," Nerds at Heart founder Bathsheba Birman, told the Press Association.

Bathsheba, who runs a dating night for (yes, you've guessed it) 'nerds', said that the "bar scene" was really just a "meat market" and that it wasn't possible to interact properly in such an environment.

So what to do? There are plenty of 'singles nights' these days which are tailored to specific interest making the whole process much less painful.
