A shocking new study has revealed the lengths that men (and some women) will go to get a 50-inch plasma telly.

According to a poll by Comet, almost half of the male population would give up sex for six months, just in order to get their hands on a massive screen, while over a third of women (35 per cent) agreed.

In total, this meant that a whopping 25 million Brits were prepared to give up nookie for half a year.

"We are surprised to see just how much the nation would be willing to give up for a 50-inch plasma TV," admitted Comet's commercial director, Bob Darke.

"With more and more people aspiring to celebrity lifestyles, having an impressive entertainment system is becoming top of the list for homeowners."

He added that the store had seen a 7,000 per cent uplift in sales of 50-inch TVs in the last two years.
