Brit to take on religious re-make role?

Britney Spears loves being controversial, so we reckon the latest news regarding a possible film comeback for the pop star is certainly plausible.

The 26-year-old is reportedly considering taking on a new acting role, according to American publication Us Weekly, which would see her playing the Virgin Mary.

The film, Sweet Baby Jesus, tells the story of a 19-year-old pregnant girl who goes into labour on Christmas Eve in Bethlehem, Maryland.

Unsure of the paternity of her child, rumours circulate that the girl's baby is Jesus' second coming.

"I had to convince my partners because they were like, 'Oh, no. Britney?'," said the film's French producer, Philippe Rebboah.

"But I thought it was brilliant. It's a bit ironic that she would play the Virgin Mary, no?"

He added that Britney was keen on the role. "She likes the idea, that's what I heard."
